What is PKU?

Phenylketonuria is a genetic metabolic disorder that greatly reduces the ability of those affected to metabolize phenylalanine, one of the amino acids in protein. In other words, individuals with PKU must maintain a life-long protein-restricted diet (as little as four grams per day) while drinking a metabolic formula that provides the protein (minus phenylalanine) that is absent from their diet and other nutrients.

A buildup of phenylalanine (phe) in the blood can cause profound damage to the central nervous system in children and adults. If untreated, PKU can cause irreversible brain damage. Lifelong treatment is required to prevent neurological and physical deterioration.

Improving the quality of life for those with PKU by fostering community and influencing and supporting research for PKU treatment therapies.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Meet Hudson.

Hudson has PKU. This genetic disorder requires lifelong management and imposes significant, daily maintenance for affected individuals and their families. The Creighton Farms Golf Invitational plays a vital role in raising both funds and awareness to support PKU patients. Beyond the competitive rounds of golf, the event also includes auctions, raffles, and inspirational stories from PKU advocates, all of which contribute to the overall fundraising efforts. This philanthropic endeavor not only fosters a sense of community and compassion but also brings hope to individuals living with PKU, as they witness the unwavering support and commitment from a network of caring individuals.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

2 Corinthians 1: 3-4

NEXT EVENT:
August 25 – 26, 2024

Hosted at their picturesque golf club, the Creighton Farms Golf Invitational features a competitive golf tournament with some of the finest players showcasing their skills on the lush greens. However, the event goes beyond the pursuit of golfing excellence; it is organized to raise funds and awareness for the PKU Hope Foundation in partnership with the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation.

Through sponsorships, donations, and participation fees, the Creighton Farms Golf Invitational generates crucial financial support for PKU research and treatment initiatives. This gathering of compassionate individuals not only celebrates the spirit of camaraderie on the golf course but also underscores the importance of uniting in the face of adversity to make a positive impact on the lives of those affected by PKU.
